Southwest Singletrack: Weekend Trails Report - 11.19.21

The weekend is back, and we’re still riding bikes. Our options are definitely shrinking, but there is singletrack to be had if you’re willing to brave the wind and cold.

Copper City - Still Rolling

The ten-day forecast calls for mostly dry conditions, so you’ll just have to contend with the wind and chilly temps. Pack an extra layer and wear some gloves and you’ll be spinning singletrack on Thanksgiving Day.

Lewis & Clark Caverns - Still Rolling

The Caverns are in the same situation as Copper City. Until we see significant snowfall, the Middle View to East Side loop should be riding great.

Gallatin Foothills - Sourdough Reopened

Sourdough / Bozeman Creek has reopened and should be good for the first few miles. Keep in mind that this trail closes to bikes for the winter starting December 1.

Town Trails - Stick to the gravel

Trails like Painted Hills and Triple Tree aren’t seeing much direct sunlight these days, and as a result haven’t dried out well. We recommend avoiding them and sticking to gravel-reinforced options like Hyalite View, Cherry River, and East Gallatin Rec Area. After the next hit of moisture, which could be Friday night, these trails will be off our list until they are snow-covered.

Dirt Roads - Prime

While it isn’t singletrack, a dirt road ride can scratch that biking itch, and you’re likely to see a lot of wildlife and find that solitude you’re after. Conditions can be variable after a rain or snow, but options like Rocky Mountain Road, Dry Creek, and Gallatin River Road are all good.

It’s Mud Mocha time!

Don’t forget to head to Freshies Cafe for a Mud Mocha! They’re donating $1 from every cup sold to SWMMBA so that we can continue educating the community about what trails are dry and what we should avoid as winter moves in. Thank you Freshies for supporting trails!
